Your Vision. Your Future.

Once you’ve decided to undergo cataract surgery, the next step is to choose an intraocular lens (IOL) to replace your natural lens. Many people don’t think of cataract surgery as a lifestyle choice, but it is. You can choose a replacement lens which allows you to stop depending on glasses to see clearly!

The lens you choose matters. While a monofocal lens can help you see far away, the PanOptix® Lens gives you a full range of vision, so that you can immerse in a full range of activities—all while relying less on glasses.1

Cataract surgery cannot be performed on the same eye more than once, so it’s vital to pick the right replacement lens before undergoing the procedure (in consultation with your eye surgeon).

Fortunately, the three types of premium lenses currently on the market present plenty of options for cataract patients. Pick the one that fits your lifestyle best while also providing adequate visual acuity for your specific needs.

Monofocal

a. The most common type of IOL, a monofocal lens allows you to focus on objects at ONE preselected distance: you can choose to see clearly at EITHER close-, mid-, or long-range vision. Most people who choose a monofocal lens implant opt for seeing clearly in their long-range vision and then continue to wear glasses for reading.

Toric IOL

If you have an astigmatism or an oval-shaped cornea, you doctor will likely recommend a Toric IOL. This type of lens corrects the refractive flaw caused by an uneven curve in the cornea or lens that leads to blurry vision. Once the astigmatism is corrected, you won’t need glasses!

Multifocal/Lifestyle

Similar to bifocal or progressive eyeglass lenses, a multifocal/lifestyle lens replacement enables you to see objects at varying distances, eliminating the need for glasses. These lenses work best if you maintain an active lifestyle but also regularly work at a computer, for instance.

What you might see after you correct your cataracts / what you might see after you correct your cataracts AND presbyopia (near vision).

Symfony (multifocal)

  • Delivering excellent uncorrected visual acuity (VA) at all distances, the TECNIS Symfony® IOL allows patients to see clearly across a full range of vision. Rather than splitting light into distinct focal points, the TECNIS Symfony® IOL elongates focus, resulting in an increased depth of field. This empowers you to see a full range of continuous vision while maintaining high image contrast.

AcrySof IQ Toric

  • The proven performance of AcrySof® IQ Toric IOLs can allow astigmatic cataract patients to meet their vision goals with less dependence on glasses or contacts for distance vision.

Each of these premium lens types has the power to enhance a wide range of patients’ vision. Provided you select the right lens for your specific needs, your vision will be clearer and brighter after cataract surgery.

During your consultation, your ICON doctor will ask about your lifestyle and long term vision goals, then help you decide which type of lens will be best suited to help you achieve those goals.
