Clear Lens Exchange, also known as Refractive Lens Exchange, is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. An ICON Eyecare surgeon simply swaps the natural lens in your eye with an advanced intraocular lens. The procedure is practically identical to cataract surgery, the only difference is that instead of removing a lens with a cataract, we remove a clear lens before a cataract can even develop.
Clear Lens Exchange is a great choice for patients who experience dry eyes, have thin corneas, or presbyopia. The great thing about CLE is that you can choose from any of the advanced technology lenses that ICON offers. These lenses allow most patients to get out of glasses and contacts – and you never have to worry about cataracts!
CLE is more similar to cataract surgery than it is to LASIK (where a laser is used to reshape the cornea) but the end goal for patients who opt for CLE is to get rid of their glasses and contacts. ICON Eyecare’s team of experts has the expertise to get you there.
