Why You Should Opt for PanOptix Trifocal Lens

October 20th, 2020

It’s a Decision Most of Us Will Have to Make as We Age

As you approach retirement age, the lenses in your eyes typically begin to get cloudier, called cataracts. At some point, the effect of the cloudiness on the clarity of your vision may become a problem. Fortunately, simple laser surgery enables us to remove your cloudy lens and substitute an artificial one. Typically, we will start with one eye and let it heal before addressing the other. Cataract surgery is a moment of opportunity, where you’ll have a choice of replacement lens that will affect your future vision.

What is a PanOptix Trifocal Lens?

Replacement lenses are typically soft intraocular lenses, or IOLs. As with regular glasses, the basic monovison lens provides a fixed correction. The new Alcon PanOptix Trifocal Lens, though, provides multiple steps of correction, like bifocal and trifocal glasses. It covers close, medium-range, and distant vision correction in a single lens. For active seniors, this is exciting news. Not all eye doctors in colorado offer this versatile IOL option with cataract surgery, but at ICON Eye Care it’s one of our favorites for our patients.

Three Reasons to Choose PanOptix Trifocal Lenses

  1. They’re available for most patients. The unique design of the lens uses 26 diffractive rings to add versatility to your vision, and the lens can be prescribed to correct standard astigmatism as well.
  2. If you’re like most seniors you want to stay active, and you need multi-range vision. Trifocal lenses provide near, medium-range, and distant vision correction that allows you to forego glasses in most cases, even if you wore them before cataract surgery. You may still need glasses for fine work such as threading needles or reading fine print.
  3. It’s an advanced version of a lens that millions of seniors already use. Over 125 million seniors worldwide use versions of Alcon AcriSof lenses, usually basic monofocal ones. We have a lot of experience with them, and we’re confident that the new PanOptix Trifocals are an excellent choice for our patients.

Ask Your Doctor About Your Options, and Whether You Qualify

Even if you have other eye conditions in addition to cataracts, you may be able to use TriFocal lenses. Let’s discuss your options if you have macular degeneration, problems with your cornea, or other eye health issues. If you have dry eye, once treated you’re likely to qualify.

Ask us about what the future holds for your vision correction options. As top eye doctors in Colorado, we want our patients to be well-informed. Becoming a senior can mean more freedom to lead an active life, and we want you to have the vision that makes it easy to enjoy yourself whether reading or playing golf. Call us with questions and to make an appointment for your routine eye exam or cataract consult.
