What is the Recovery Time for LASIK?
Beyond Seeing Clearly: What to Expect with your LASIK Recovery
Get Answers to one of the Most Commonly Asked Questions about LASIK
You’ve made the life-changing decision to have LASIK. That’s great! You have made a great investment in yourself, your life and your future! But you may still have questions, and that’s completely normal. After all, you only get one set of eyes and you want to take care of them!
During your FREE LASIK consultation at ICON Eyecare, all of your questions will be answered. You should plan on being with us for about two hours as this is a very comprehensive exam and consultation process because we want to be sure that you feel 100% comfortable and confident on your procedure day.
Your LASIK consultation involves a full eye exam using advanced diagnostic tools in addition to dilation. Some of the factors that go into determining if LASIK is right for you are your prescription, age, corneal shape and thickness, pupil size and presence of dry eye. You will leave this appointment feeling informed and confident.
At ICON Eyecare, a Center of Excellence, our experienced surgeons have helped thousands of patients achieve better vision. Many of these patients have chosen vision correction with our popular Blade-Free LASIK.
One common question many LASIK candidates have is, “What is the recovery time for LASIK?”
It’s a great question! After all, people have lives and families and jobs to get back to. Even with all the many amazing benefits of LASIK, significant downtime would understandably be a deterrent for many people.
Great news!
There is very little downtime after LASIK.
In fact, your eyes will start healing immediately after your LASIK surgery, and most patients experience clearer vision almost immediately. But it is perfectly normal to experience some blurred vision and possible fluctuations in your vision during your LASIK recovery.
Your ICON Eyecare LASIK surgeon will see you the day after your surgery to check your progress and make sure your eyes are healthy and healing properly.
Most patients are able to drive (without eyeglasses or contact lenses) and are able to return to work the day after their LASIK procedure.
Regular follow-up visits will be scheduled for up to a year to continue to monitor your vision. These are all included in your comprehensive Blade-Free LASIK package, so there is no concern for additional costs. Our surgeons just want to be extra certain that you love your new vision for a lifetime.
In very rare cases, if vision still hasn’t stabilized by six months after LASIK, your surgeon may recommend an enhancement procedure to sharpen your eyesight. Our surgeons wait a minimum of six months before performing an enhancement, to allow for enough recovery and healing time after the first surgery.
Safety First
After any type of vision correction surgery, including LASIK, you should take precautions to protect your eyes from injury. This is a good idea during your LASIK recovery and even after your surgeon tells you that your eyes have fully recovered.
Consider investing in a pair of high-quality safety glasses and sports glasses with polycarbonate lenses to protect your eyes when you’re working with power tools, playing sports or engaged in any other activities that have the potential for increasing your risk of eye injury.
